"Vision Engineering creates great product experiences as the leader

in our market. Dot ID works seamlessly with our internal project teams

to ensure world class design execution from initial concepts, design development, mechanical engineering and product branding."

– Graham Mercer – Design and Development Director – Vision Engineering

The Challenge

Vision Engineering’s goal was to take their advanced technology and create a

system that users could easily adjust for ergonomic comfort and optimal viewing.

This required balancing precision, functionality and durability in a way that also

fits seamlessly into professional user’s workflows.

As leaders in optical, microscopy and metrology solutions, Vision Engineering approached Dot ID to assist with the design and engineering of a professional 3D stereo viewing system. The challenge was to integrate cutting-edge technology into a manufacturable product that offered both ergonomic benefits and exceptional performance.

The Challenge

The Solution

Through an iterative process of concept ideation, development, prototyping and testing, we created a robust, user-centric system. We focused on precision, ensuring that the high-fidelity components were securely positioned using advanced metal fabrication and casting techniques. The structural design not only reinforced strength and stability but also conveyed a sense of accuracy and reliability to the user. Core to the aesthetic development was to create parts that were not only structural and functional but visually appealing to Vision Engineering’s customers.

Ergonomics were a core consideration, as users often engage with the system for extended periods of time. We designed a series of mechanisms to offer the user the functionality of multiple height and tilt options, ensuring comfort during long sessions and simple adjustability for optimum viewing conditions particularly when sharing the system between different users. We also prioritised seamless integration into the user’s workflow, accommodating keyboard space and the ability to adapt the system for single-screen use.

To meet the diverse needs of Vision Engineering’s customers, we designed two versions of the system with interchangeable components to optimise cost efficiency and streamline production without compromising functionality. The result? A system that balances innovation, ease of use and high performance tailored to the unique needs of Vision Engineering’s users.
